What is a smart card?
A Smart Card is a plastic card with a form of data embedding (Chipsets, Magnetic stripes, printing etc.) that has the ability to store, use, and process information when interacting with its digital counterpart, for example, a Credit Card has information stored on it about one’s bank details, and creates an electronic infrastructure when interacting with a card machine, by using a card to initiate a process inter-bank.
What smart card types there are ?
Contact smart cards have a contact area containing a small gold plated contact pad. When inserted into a reader, the contact pad or chip makes contact with electrical connectors that can read data from the chip and write information back. The cards do not contain batteries; the power is supplied by the reader.
Smart card readers are used as communication device or medium between the host and the smart card as in a computer, point of sale terminal or mobile phone. Since the chips in smart cards are the same as in mobile phones, the SIM cards in mobile phones are programmed differently and embedded in different shaped PVC.
Contactless RFID ISO card covers the Low frequency 125KHz(125Khz LF RFID Proximity Card), and High frequency 13.56MHz technology, To achieve contactless transmission of data, electromagnetic waves transmit the data between the RFID chip and reading devices.
